Microsoft acquires Xamarin

This week, Microsoft announced its acquisition of Xamarin, a leading platform provider of mobile app development. The acquisition will allow Microsoft to integrate Xamarin into Microsoft Azure, Visual Studio Team Services and Visual Studio, and this will provide an end-to-end mobile app development solution for developers. The goal is to make it easier for C# developers to build, test and instrument mobile apps for all kinds of mobile devices across all platforms. According to Forrester Research, the “acquisition is yet another sign of the new cross-platform, public-cloud focused Microsoft.” The move will strengthen Microsoft’s ‘Universal Windows Platform’ technology and help the company build a larger ecosystem of developers.
