Just after acquiring LinkedIn for $26.2 billion, Microsoft announced that it bought Wand Labs, a startup that uses natural language technology to develop conversational and intelligent messaging apps. The deal is said to be part of Microsoft’s move to strengthen its conversation-as-a-platform strategy. Wand Labs is a great addition to the company’s Bot Framework. The Bot Framework includes the Cortana Intelligence Suite, which allows developers to build intelligent chat bots using natural language, and the Skype Bot Platform, which will enable companies to build bots that can interact with users on Skype. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
