Ele.me raises $1.25 billion from Alibaba and Ant Financial

Alibaba is on an investment spree. After paying $1 billion to acquire a controlling stake in Lazada, the Chinese ecommerce giant contributed $900 million to Ele.me’s latest funding round. Ant Financial, an affiliate of Alibaba, contributed $350 million. Ele.me, which translates to “Are you hungry now?”, is a food delivery platform based in Shanghai. It previously raised $630 million from Didi Kuaidi at a $3 billion valuation in August. Its total funding is now $2.34 billion, making it China’s third most funded startup.

Didi Kuaidi’s projected valuation at more than $20 billion – February 25, 2016


Didi Kuaidi is China’s leading ride-hailing app and UberChina’s fiercest competitor. Just like Uber, Didi Kuaidi is one of the world’s most valuable startups with a current valuation of $16 billion and an annual revenue estimate of around $200 million.

In a bid to challenge UberChina, Didi Kuaidi recently received at least $1 billion in investment commitments from various investors. Once completed, the fundraising round would value Didi at more than $20 billion. This round follows the company’s $3 billion fundraising last September.

MindMaze’s valuation at $1.1 billion – February 17, 2016


MindMaze, one of the top 10 healthcare companies in Switzerland, has raised $100 million in funding so it can continue to create VR devices for stroke patients. The company is now valued at $1.1 billion. A spinoff from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, MindMaze is considered as the world’s first multisensory computing platform. Its breakthrough technology combines virtual reality, augmented reality, neuroscience and motion capture to create a medical-grade “neural virtual reality platform.” It has a VR/AR headset called MindLeap that can train a stroke patient’s brain to regain motor function. MindLeap technology is now being used for stroke victim therapy in European hospitals.
