June 23, 2016 Comments Off on Dell sells its software division to Francisco Partners and Elliott Management
PC maker Dell announced that it has sold its software division for $2 billion to Francisco Partners and Elliott Management. The deal involves software maker Quest, security company SonicWall, and cloud management company Enstratius. The acquisition is viewed by many as unusual particularly for a company trying to reinvent itself. Dell was privatized in 2013 so it could improve its business model and go all-out on software. In 2015 it acquired EMC for $67 billion to leverage EMC’s dominance in storage devices and fortify its networking portfolio. Dell, however, is not closing its doors to software just yet. The company still has cloud integration company Boomi, which means that Dell still wants to keep its options open.
