In an effort to attract more artists and music fans, Spotify has acquired CrowdAlbum. CrowdAlbum was launched in 2013. The company aggregates photos and videos from artists’ performances based on the location and time when these were shared on social media. The albums essentially give artists a visual history of their concerts and help them connect with their fans. Although it’s still not clear if Spotify will shut down CrowdAlbum, which is what it did to its two most recent acquisitions, the company says CrowdAlbum will help them continue to build products and tools for musicians to engage with fans and gain insights about their preferences and behaviours.
