Google Glass may not be surefire hit among consumers but it’s gaining momentum in healthcare. The gadget now plays a growing role in hospitals as developers find new ways to incorporate its use in the practice of medicine. One of the companies at the forefront of developing Google Glass is Pristine.io, a Texas-based startup that develops apps that allow Google Glass to access patient data from the EMR (Electronic Medical Record) instantly, enable consultations with specialists on demand, stream live videos like demo surgeries to other doctors thousands of miles away and monitor patient telemetry remotely. What’s more, Pristine.io is HIPAA compliant to ensure that a patient’s medical data remains safe from hackers. Today, the company has raised $5.4 million in funding to hire more engineers, marketing and sales personnel. Read about the funding here.
