LinkedIn acquires PointDrive

Commentary

LinkedIn has acquired PointDrive, a Chicago-based startup that lets sales personnel share visual content with prospective clients. PointDrive offers cloud-based tools that enables integration of files, videos, graphics, and other content into a webpage that can be presented to customers during a sales pitch. The acquisition is intended to boost LinkedIn’s Sales Solutions platform. The deal follows LinkedIn’s acquisition of Fliptop, its partnership with Salesforce and the launch of its Social Selling Index. According to sources, Microsoft plans to integrate LinkedIn’s sales products within its own CRM products in order to improve sales cycles through actionable insights.

Digi.me raises $6.1 million from Swiss Re

Commentary

Digi.me, a UK-based startup that enables users to download their online social life and unify their social networks, has raised $6.1 million. The Series A round was led by leading reinsurance company Swiss Re. The Digi.me app allows users to back up and re-share content they have previously posted on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Flickr, LinkedIn, Google+, RSS, Pinterest and Viadeo. The app creates a searchable data journal that can keeps all social media content to ensure important online memories are safely saved. With the new funds, Digi.me aims to build a data-sharing platform that will give users more control over their content while also helping businesses gain access to user data. Instead of data harvesting, Digi.me promotes informed consent by letting people chose who and how they share their data.

Microsoft acquires LinkedIn

Commentary

In the largest acquisition in its history, Microsoft bought LinkedIn for a massive $26.2 billion. The deal is said to be Satya Nadela’s latest effort to rev up Microsoft’s software offerings and part of his bold ambition to reinvent productivity and business processes. It is said that the deal will combine LinkedIn’s networks with Microsoft’s business software ecosystem. The result will be a comprehensive suite of business solutions that is designed to empower LinkedIn users. According to Gartner Research, the deal will also help Microsoft move into the market for human management solutions, citing its access to LinkedIn’s user-maintained company and employee data.
