Asana raises $50 million

Commentary

It’s amazing how the internet has allowed even the smallest startups to hire a global workforce. Telecommuting lets teams from anywhere in the world work together, an advantage that businesses never had over a decade ago. Efficient communication is crucial to success, whether team members work in the same office or are spread out across different countries. One company that offers secure, real-time business communication is San Francisco-based startup Asana. Asana is a web and mobile application designed to help teams improve communication, organisation and collaboration. The software tracks projects, tasks and conversations on a user-friendly dashboard, which enables teams to manage work from start to finish. Last week, Asana announced it raised $50 million in funding from a consortium of investors, including Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan, Y Combinator president Sam Altman, Groupon founder Andrew Mason and Peter Thiel’s VC firm Founder’s Fund, among others. According to the co-founders of Asana, Dustin Moskovitz and Justin Rosenstein, the funds will be used to create a bigger and better version of the current application to service larger companies.
