News Corp Australia invests in hipages

In a move to further expand its digital presence, News Corp Australia bought a 25% stake in hipages, Australia’s leading online marketplace for tradies. Sydney-based hipages is Australia’s biggest on-demand home services provider, with more than 80,000 jobs posted on the platform each month. The startup helps homeowners find and hire tradespeople like plumbers, electricians, painters and builders, and it allows them to request quotes and screen potential candidates. This investment will add to the media giant’s growing property and home service portfolio. Hipages’ previous investors include Right Click Capital (the publisher of Internet DealBook), Ellerston Capital, Australian Ethical Investment and Kestrel Capital. Hipages will use the funding to accelerate growth, invest in product development, and create greater brand awareness among its customers and trade businesses.
