Index Ventures, one of the leading venture capital firms in the world, is known for its investments in high profile tech companies such as, Skype, Dropbox, Secret and Etsy. Yesterday, the firm surprised everyone when it announced that it has led a $21 million Series B funding round in Good Eggs, a platform that allows customers to order fresh farm-grown food online. What made Good Eggs attractive to Index Ventures? According to Danny Rimer who led the investment round for Index Ventures, it was social responsibility. Index believes in “doing well by doing good” and seeks to make a difference in the world. Danny also noted that businesses with a social responsibility at the core tend to perform better than those which are only after profit.
