HPE to acquire SimpliVity for $650 million

Commentary

HPE (Hewlett Packard Enterprise) has agreed to acquire SimpliVity for $650 million to expand its existing infrastructure, automation and cloud services. SimpliVity is one of the major players in the space called hyperconverged infrastructure, a type of infrastructure that tightly combines compute, storage and networking into a single system. According to analysts, the acquisition was a great deal for HPE. After all, SimpliVity used to be valued at $1 billion in 2015 and was even rumoured to have a purchase price of a whopping $3.9 billion a few months ago. If so, HPE has succeeded in purchasing a top-rated startup at a very low price.
