Medium raises $50 million

Medium, the social publishing platform founded by Twitter co-founder Ev Williams, has raised $50 million in Series C funding in a round that values the company at $600 million. The round was led by Spark Capital, with participation from Ev Williams, Andreessen Horowitz and GV. The funding follows an earlier financing round of $57 million in September 2015, which valued the company at $400 million. Medium is a free platform for people to publish their own ideas and stories. Medium is focused on being the best place where people can read and write interesting content. It’s a publishing tool, a social network and an ecosystem with the sole focus of sharing the written word. So far, Medium has convinced independent publications like The Awl, Electric Literature, Pacific Standard and others to retire their old content management systems and go all-in on Medium.
