The Rise and Fall of Blackberry
Sweet irony! While the new iPhone 5s sold like hotcakes last week, Blackberry announced its aim to go private in a $4.7 billion deal with Fairfax Financial. It was not that long ago that Blackberry once ruled the world. It was the mobile phone of choice of corporate road warriors everywhere. It was a serious, efficient, and secure mobile phone that did not disappoint.
So what made consumers lose their interest? Two words: the iPhone. On January 9, 2007, Steve Jobs announced the iPhone at the Macworld convention and it marked the beginning of the end for Blackberry. The iPhone was so revolutionary that it changed the way people used mobile phones and made Blackberry and all other mobile devices at the time obsolete.
The lesson is simple: evolve or die. Failure to do so could spell doom for any business.
